LEXINGTON, VA - Designated hitter David Perkins belted a two-out, game-tying solo homerun in the top of the ninth and the Charleston Southern Buccaneers added an unearned run in the 10th to take a 3-2 win over VMI in Big South Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Charleston Southern improves to 9-15 overall and 3-2 in Big South play with game three of the series set for Sunday afternoon at 1 pm.
CSU scored a run in the first to take an early 1-0 lead but VMI scored single runs in the third and seventh to take a 2-1 lead. Perkins then delivered his fourth career homerun to centerfield to tie the game.
Freshman Mark Perry singled in the 10th and eventually came around to score on a throwing error by VMI's catcher on a steal attempt by Wes Brundridge.
Junior Ryan Rowland earned the victory in relief, improving to 4-1 on the season. Rowland pitched the final three innings, allowing just one hit.
CSU starter Ryan Sowers delivered his fifth consecutive strong outing, allowing three hits and two runs (one earned) in seven innings of work. Sowers and Rowland silenced the VMI bats to the tune of four hits after the Keydets tallied 12 in Friday's 16-1 win.
