Chanticleers perform encore of Saturday's 12-4 victory over Charleston Southern on Sunday

CONWAY, SC - Sophomore pitcher Byron Binda (6-1) hurled five innings of one-hit relief while striking out six batters, as the Coastal Carolina baseball team defeated Charleston Southern, 12-4, Sunday afternoon at Watson Stadium. Coastal improves to 40-13, 11-5 in the Big South, while Charleston Southern falls to 17-34, 9-12 in the Big South.

The win for the Chanticleers gives the team its third consecutive 40-win season and four of its last five.

Charleston Southern got off to a fast start in the first inning with back-to-back home runs by lead off hitter Jordan Haar and Brad Woods. Coastal would answer with four in the bottom half of the first on a grand slam by freshman Mike Costanzo.

In the second, CSU would tie the game at 4-4, on a two-run single by Woods. CCU would retake the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second off a two-run home run by senior Brandon Powell.

Ryan McGraw led Coastal with three hits, while Costanzo went 2-for-3 with 5 RBI. Powell also tallied two hits for CCU that has now won 13 of the last 15. Woods, along with Adrian Vanderburg, led the CSU attack with two hits each.

The Chants will wrap up the regular season with a three-game Big South series at UNC Asheville, beginning on Friday, May 16 at 7 p.m.
