SAVANNAH, GA - Savannah State overcame an early 7-1 deficit and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning in an 8-7 win over Charleston Southern on Wednesday afternoon.
Savannah State improves to 19-14 overall while the Buccaneers drop to 11-24. CSU travels to UNC Asheville for a three-game Big South Conference series this weekend.
Justin Fyle had two hits and three RBI, belting his team-leading seventh homerun of the season for the Buccaneers. Centerfielder Chris Krogmeier also homered, his first long ball of the season.
Sophomore Payton Tweddale took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season. Charleston Southern was out-hit, 13-9, and committed four errors for the second consecutive game.
CSU built the early 7-1 lead, after the Fyle and Krogmeier homeruns, after only four innings but Savannah State answered with three runs in the fifth and three more runs in the sixth. The winning run in the ninth scored when Tweddale threw the ball wide of third on a bunt, allowing the run to score with no outs in the ninth. Related Item: Box Score |
