CHARLESTON, S.C. - Senior Ryan Sowers allowed only six hits in 8 1/3 innings and David Perkins and Chris Krogmeier homered as the Charleston Southern Buccaneers defeated Lipscomb, 5-1, in college baseball action on Saturday afternoon at Buccaneer Field.
Sowers (5-4) allowed an unearned run and struck out three in his best outing of the season. Lipscomb managed to load the bases in the ninth before Sowers gave way to Payton Tweddale, who got the final out and earned his fourth save of the season.
Charleston Southern improves to 17-29 with their third consecutive win while Lipscomb falls to 16-22. The teams wrap up the season on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Perkins finished with three hits on the day, belting his fifth homerun of the season in the fifth inning. Krogmeier's homerun in the seventh gave CSU a 5-1 lead. Justin Fyle and Ryan Smart each had RBI singles to spot CSU an early 2-0 lead after four innings.
The outing by Sowers capped an amzing three-day pitching run for the Buccaneers. CSU has allowed only two earned runs over their last 27 innings. Sowers lowered his earned run average to 3.46 this season. Related Item: Box Score |
