CHARLESTON, S.C. - Buccaneer pride shown brightly on Saturday, May 6, 2006, as 29 student-athletes, and one coach, received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the university.
Several Bucs received special recognition at commencement, including women’s basketball player Danielle Baskin, the 2006 recipient of the Myrtle E. Hamrick Award.
The Hamrick award is presented annually to the "Charleston Southern University graduate who exemplifies the highest virtues of womanhood."
The award is named after the first president's mother, and is voted on by the student life committee.
This is the second consecutive year that a female student athlete has received this award. Baskin’s former teammate, Amanda Ekberg, received the Hamrick award at the 2005 commencement.
Other student athletes graduating with distinction were: Adam Degraffenreid (Football) summa cum laude; Kate Basom (Women’s Soccer) cum laude; and Josh Evans (Baseball) cum laude.
Special congratulations to former women’s golfer and CSU alum Tiffany Shoppe, who received her Master of Science in Criminal Justice, and Assistant Football Coach Jamie Chadwell, for receiving his Master of Business Administration.
