CONWAY, S.C. – The Bucs committed three errors as they fell to 15th-ranked Coastal Carolina 10-4, Friday afternoon at Watson Stadium. Coastal improved their record to 25-3 with a 4-0 start to Big South play. The Bucs fall to 13-19 with the loss and start 0-4 in Big South play.
Wes Brundridge and Anthony Hayes each had a pair of hits on the day, each recording an RBI as well. Ryan Rowland took the loss on the mound for the Bucs, dropping his record to 3-4 on the season after going 5.2 innings, giving up five runs on nine hits.
The Bucs strung together a pair of hits in the first to take a 1-0 lead when Stephen Herzog scored on an Hayes single.
Coastal Carolina came right back, scoring four unanswered runs, two in the first, and two in the third to take a 4-1 lead.
An error on a Chris Krogmeier grounder put him on in the fourth, allowing him to come around and scored on an RBI double by Mark Perry.
Again, Coastal Carolina answered with a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth to hold onto their three-run lead. They would add to their lead with two runs in the seventh to go up 7-2.
An RBI double in the eighth by David Perkins scored Hayes for the third run of the game, but after giving up three runs in the bottom of the inning, the Bucs faced a 10-3 deficit. CSU would add one more run in the ninth, thanks to an RBI single by Brundridge to score Lionel Greene from second.
The two teams will face off again on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
