CONWAY, S.C. – Charleston Southern had eight hits, but only scored once in a 5-1 loss to Coastal Carolina, Saturday afternoon at Watson Stadium. With the loss, CSU falls to 13-20 and 0-5 in the Big South. Coastal improved to 26-3 and 5-0 after winning their 14th-straight game.

D.J. Throneburg pitched 4.2 innings for CSU, giving up three runs on six hits, but took the loss to fall to 2-6 on the season. Payton Tweddale finished out the game for CSU giving up two runs on three hits. Offensively, the Bucs had eight hits, with Sean Doherty and Chris Krogmeier each notching two. Seven of the eight CSU hits came from the bottom half of the lineup.

Coastal took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as a couple of sacrifices by the Chants scored David Suppelt, who led the inning off with a double.

An RBI single by David Perkins to score Chris Krogmeier tied the game in the second, but it was short-lived as a two-run homerun by Tyler Bortnick put Coastal back on top 3-1.

The Bucs threatened again as Mark Perry put runners on second and third, but with two outs, CSU could not plate the runs.

Another CCU homer and an RBI single added a pair of insurance runs for Coastal Carolina, giving them a 5-1 lead going into the final inning.

The Bucs put two on with just one out, but a double play ended the game.

Charleston Southern will try to take game three with Cody Higgins taking the mound on Sunday at 1 p.m.
