CHARLESTON, S.C. —The Bucs jumped out to a 2-0 lead but it was not enough as the Trojans from Taylor University rallied back and defeated CSU 5-4 on an overcast Tuesday afternoon at Buccaneer Field.
Leading the way for the Bucs was Wes Brundridge who went 4 for 5 with two doubles two singles. Michael Bentley accounted for Taylor’s first three runs scoring twice and knocking in one RBI.
The scoring began in the third when Lionel Greene scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Chris Krogmeier. The scoring continued when Anthony Hayes was walked with the bases loaded. Taylor answered back in the next two frames with Bentley scoring on a wild pitch by Buc reliever Andrew White and in the fifth Pease scored on a Michael Bentley double into left field to give the Trojans the lead at 3-2. The Bucs added one more on when Hayes singled up the middle scoring Brundridge. The Trojans would add on two more in the top of the ninth when Bentley hit a solo home run and finally when Matt Maple scored off of a double by Pease.
Taking the loss for the Bucs was Peyton Tweddale dropping to 2-2 on the season. Taking the win in relief for the Trojans was Chris Nycz improving to 1-0.
The Bucs continue Big South play this weekend as UNC-Asheville pays a visit to Charleston for a three game set. The first pitch for Friday is set for 2:00 pm while the doubleheader for Saturday is set to begin at 11:00 am.
