LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Buccaneers took a 3-2 lead in the third, but couldn't hold on, as they fell 8-4, Saturday afternoon at Worthington Stadium.
Six of the nine Buccaneer hits came from the top four batters in the order as Wes Brundridge, Stephen Herzog and Justin Fyle each notched two hits for CSU (15-27, 2-10). CSU starter Ryan Rowland took the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings of work.
Liberty (23-15, 5-4) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Patrick Gaillard RBI single up the middle.
Charleston Southern took the lead in the third with a three-run frame, despite a sacrifice bunt attempt that was unsuccessful. Adam Brown reached second on a Brundridge single, before Stephen Herzog hit his team-leading seventh homerun of the season.
The Flames would add one more run in the bottom of the inning with a solo homerun by Garrett Young.
CSU held onto their 3-2 lead until the fifth inning, when Liberty used six hits, including two doubles, to score five runs, chasing Rowland from the game.
A lead off walk in the sixth led to another Flame run as they made it 8-3. CSU got one back in the eighth, as Fyle hit a one-out double and eventually came around to score.
The Bucs will face The Citadel on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Buccaneer Field before getting back out on the road to face Winthrop next weekend. Related Item: Box Score |
