HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Buccaneers used a four-hit complete game shutout by Cody Higgins as they beat High Point 1-0, Friday night, at Willard Stadium.
It was the second shutout and the second complete game of the season for Charleston Southern (18-31, 3-13), as they prevailed despite struggling offensively. High Point drops to 24-25 on the season with a 9-10 mark in the Big South.
All four of CSUs hits came from the top three in the order as Wes Brundridge and Chris Krogmeier each had one, with Justin Fyle reaching safely twice.
The only run of the game came in the fourth inning as the top of the order strung three-straight singles together, with Brundridge scoring, giving the RBI to Fyle.
Despite little run support, Higgins made the most of his start on the mound, striking out four and walking just two in the first complete-game of his CSU career.
High Point also had a strong pitching performance, as Eammon Portice got the start and going eight-strong, walking one and striking out eight Buccaneers. Portice gave up the only run of the game, though, taking the loss.
The two teams will do battle again Saturday at 7 p.m.Related Item: Box Score
