CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charleston Southern junior Cody Higgins (Jefferson City, Mo.) has been named New Balance Pitcher of the Week for games played May 7-13, it was announced today by the League office, while Radford sophomore infielder Alex Gregory (Great Falls, Va.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week,
Higgins blanked High Point Friday night, 1-0, in tossing a complete game four-hitter. He walked just two batters while striking out four in hurling the Buccaneers’ second complete game of the season and the first of his CSU career. It also was the first complete game shutout by a Buccaneer pitcher this year, and helped Charleston Southern claim its first Big South series win of the season, as the Bucs took two-of-three from the Panthers. Higgins also recorded a strikeout in one inning of work in CSU’s 15-4 win at Campbell. His line last week: 1-0, 0.90 ERA, 10 IP, 6 H, 1 R/ER, 3 BB, 5 SO, .162 opponents batting average.
