CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Bucs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning against the Highlanders and never looked back as they defeated Radford 6-3 on a sunny afternoon for senior day at Buccaneer Field.

D.J. Throneburg took the win for the Bucs pitching a solid 8.2 innings, improving his record to 1-6and gave credit to his teammates. “It felt great. The defense was made all the plays for me and we plated 6 runs, which helped.”

Taking the loss for the Highlanders is John Lloyd who fell to 1-5 on the season. Offensively for CSU, Wes Brundridge had three hits, while Anthony Hayes and Ryan Smart each added two.

The Bucs scoring started as left fielder Justin Fyle scored off of a Smart single to right field. Catcher Stephen Herzog then stole home off of a double steal as Smart stole second. The final run of the inning was plated by Smart, when he scored off of an Adam Brown single.

The final three runs the Bucs scored in the contest were in the third inning when first baseman Hayes scored off of a Herzog double to right center. The final runs were scored when Smart singled to left field, scoring Herzog and Greene.

Bucs skipper Jason Murray stated “After finals we said that we needed to comeback and play the best baseball here at the end of the season.”

Both teams now advance to the Big South Conference Tournament at the Winthrop Ballpark in Rock Hill, SC.
