CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Liberty running back Rashad Jennings and Charleston Southern defensive back Josh Warrior have been named the Big South football Choice Hotels Offensive Player of the Week and New Balance Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for games played during Week 6 (Oct. 6) of the 2007 season, it was announced today by the Conference office. In addition, Charleston Southern kicker Nick Ellis was selected as Special Teams Player of the Week, while Coastal Carolina linebacker Derrick Frasier garnered Freshman of the Week honors.
Warrior, a redshirt-junior from Orange Park, Fla., had eight tackles, including five solo, in the Bucs’ 28-0 win over Savannah State. He posted three tackles for loss of 22 yards and a fourth quarter interception at the CSU 7-yard line that ended SSU’s last scoring threat. Warrior helped the Bucs defense hold Savannah State to 66 total yards (40 rushing, 26 passing) and 1.1 yards per play. Savannah State entered the game averaging 259 yards of total offense and 163 rushing yards.
Ellis, a senior from Stockbridge, Ga., tied a Big South single-game record with four field goals in Saturday’s 28-0 win over Savannah State. He hit from 28, 29, 37 and 43 yards to become the second kicker in League history with a perfect 4-4 field goal performance. Ellis also nailed both extra points of the day and finished with a career-high 14 points. As a punter, he averaged 43.2 yards on three kicks, including a 50-yarder.
