Bucs Battle in Banana Split SeriesNovember 1, 2007By CSU Sports Information CHARLESTON, S.C. - With the Boston Red Sox winning the World Series, the CSU Baseball team is ready to see who is crowned the winner of the first-annual Banana Split Series. The 2007 fall practice season has been an exciting time as the squad welcomed 16 new players to the program.
“Anytime you have this many new players, the fall practices can be very long and tiresome because of how much evaluation and teaching needs to be done. However, it has been very energetic and competitive. The team is showing a lot passion and enthusiasm throughout the fall which I think will help add a great deal of energy and focus for our best of 5 games Banana Split Series,” states Coach Murray.
Senior RHP Cody Higgins and Junior LHP TJ Green were given the opportunity to be the player/coaches of the teams. Cody drafted for the CSU Blue team and TJ drafted for the CSU Gold team. Assistant Coach Tim Lau will be the manager for the CSU Blue team and assistant coach David Wolfe will manage the CSU Gold team.
The draft was a very thought out process with lots of strategy by the two players. On paper it looks to be a good series as both teams have strong pitching and good defensive players. The team that loses the series will provide banana splits to the winning team.
