CHARLESTON, S.C. - A four-run second coupled with a five-run third was all the Charleston Southern baseball team needed to defeat crosstown rival The College of Charleston, 11-5, Wednesday afternoon at Buccaneer Field.
CSU improved to 14-24 overall on the season in winning their fifth consecutive game. CSU starter Brad Bissell (4-7) took the victory on the mound with the Bucs getting solid relief work from Jimmy Trenor, Bobby Parnell and Ian Holmen.
Trailing 1-0 in the second, CSU combined four hits and a pair of walks with second baseman Brad Woods delivering a two-run single and first baseman Adrian Vanderburg adding an RBI single as well.
The Bucs broke the game open in the third. Haar belted a bases loaded double off the centerfield fence and Woods immediately followed with a two-run homerun to right. CSU added single runs in the sixth and seventh and cruised to the victory.
CSU, 6-6 in the Big South Conference, will host Radford University in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 3:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore R.J. Swindle is slated to start on Friday, seeking his sixth consecutive victory. Related Item: Box Score |
