Athletes Take Stage at December Commencement

Former track athlete Josh Williams was awarded a degree posthumously

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Thirty-eight student-athletes received undergraduate and graduate degrees on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Charleston Southern’s commencement ceremonies in Lightsey Chapel.

Several Bucs received special recognition at commencement, including the late Josh Williams, a member of the men’s track and field team. Josh was awarded posthumously a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Business Administration. Josh’s mother and brother accepted his degree during the ceremony.

Men’s tennis player Babar Akbar, who graduated cum laude, was also recognized as a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society.

Other Bucs graduating with distinction were Wes Brundridge (Baseball) cum laude; Quentin Guichard (Men’s Tennis) cum laude; and Matt Hurd (Football) cum laude.

David Perkins, a former member of the Baseball team, received his Master of Business Administration. David received his undergraduate degree in Business Management with a minor in Psychology from the university in May 2006.
