2008 CSU Baseball Alumni Weekend

Trying to find that old baseball glove, baseball pants, and getting the body ready became a reality to 13 alumni on Saturday, Feb. 9th.

“This game was a huge success for our program and our alumni.  These former Buc Stars helped bring a vision of family back to CSU baseball” says Head Coach Jason Murray. 

The morning started with alumni hitting in the cages and warming up the rusty throwing shoulders.  The alumni took part in a hitting contest that gave points to batters hitting the ball over the infield dirt, over 200ft., hitting the outfield fence, and the ultimate goal of a homerun.  The young Bucs seemed to be the favorites to win the contest, however, the older alumni made a rule that each hitter received their points + their age!  The contest was won by Brad Woods (2000-2005 3B/C), with a towering shot that crushed the scoreboard!

After the hitting contest, Matt Brownlee (1986-89 RHP), started the game on the mound.  The old-timer started the game off with some heat, maybe touching 89 (really 79)!  Scotty Thacker went behind the plate again just like he did in the years 1999-2004.  Kevin Futrell flashed some glove at SS along with David Perkins running down balls in CF.  Former pitchers Mike Mead and Ryan Rowland showed they could still play the game in the field.  The game went pretty well which saw several players gaining innings on the mound, Justin Fyle (2005-2007), Rich Gomersall (2000-2001), Chris Kellet (2000-2002), and Jim Maas 2000-2003).

The hitting was the most impressive part of the day which saw several of the players looking like they never left the cages.  Ashley Creel sent a few balls into the outfield, along with Chris Kellet and Brandon Massey getting on base.  They may have forgotten to run their 60s, but their swings were great.
