Stevenson Garners Additional Honor as TSN National Special Teams Player of The WeekSeptember 9, 2008By CSU Sports Information PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Sophomore Gerald Stevenson has been named the Sports Network's FCS Special Teams Player of the Week afer his performance against Wofford. Stevenson was also named the Big South Special Teams Player of the Week. Stevenson set a Big South single-game record with 255 kickoff return yards on seven returns Saturday at No. 13 Wofford in a 41-23 loss, averaging 36.4 yards per return. He returned the opening kickoff 47 yards to set up CSU's first touchdown of the game, and later had a 61-yard return that set up another scoring drive. Stevenson gave Charleston Southern great field position all night. Three times his returns gave CSU starting possessions inside Terrier territory. Five of Stevenson's returns were greater than 30 yards (47, 32, 36, 61, 48). He finished the night with 302 all-purpose yards, the second-most in a game in Big South history. Charleston Southern will travel to Oxford, Ohio, to play the Miami RedHawks this Saturday for a 3 p.m. scheduled kickoff. |
