CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Freshman Sequoya Casey led a select group of Lady Buccaneers at the Eddie and Jo Smith UNC Classic, Saturday.

Without the entire team, the CSU athletes did their best to represent the blue and gold. Casey had a personal best in the triple jump with a second-place finish, getting out 11.32m. Casey also grabbed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.56m.

Tia Habbersham finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.13m to round out the field events.

Chidi Walsh, Patria Norman and Channell Futrell all competed in the 60m, with all three breaking 10 seconds. Walsh qualified for the finals with a 9.18 second time, her second-best performance of the year, while Norman (26th) and Futrell (32nd) finished with times of 9.50 and 9.75 seconds, respectively. Walsh opted to not run in the finals of the event, but did compete in the 400m dash, running 1:01.14 to finish 21st.

Aundraya Camp and Tracey Epley each competed in the 800m run, finishing in 2:41.19 and 2:54.37, respectively. Alicyne Smith took the indoor track for the first time this year in the mile, clocking in at 5:52.47, while Brittany Owens tried the 3,000m run for the first time this year. Owens’ time of 11:03.27 was good enough for 21st place.

The Lady Bucs will head to East Tennessee State next weekend for the Niswonger Invitational that will be held Friday and Saturday.
