CHARLESTON, SC - Charleston Southern University will play 12 games, including six at home, during the 2003 football season. The school released its 2003 schedule on Monday.

Highlighting the schedule are the season-opening game at The Citadel on August 30, and a return trip to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida to face the University of South Florida on October 18.

CSU will open the 2003 season with back-to-back road games, following the Citadel game with a trip to Wingate University on September 6. The 2003 home opener will be on September 13 when the Buccaneers host Presbyterian College. The home opener is followed by home games against West Virginia State and Tusculum before an open date on October 4.

The Big South Conference opener for CSU will come on October 11 when the Bucs visit the newest member of the league, Virginia Military Institute. Following the trip to Tampa, the Bucs return home for games against North Greenville on October 25 and Big South foe Liberty on November 1.

CSU visits defending Big South Conference champion Gardner-Webb on November 8, then play non-league opponent James Madison on November 15. The regular season finale comes November 22 when the Buccaneers host Coastal Carolina for the first time ever.

The Buccaneers are under the direction of first-year head coach Jay Mills, who takes over the program after a six-year stint as the offensive coordinator at Harvard. The Buccaneers return 10 starters, including 2002 All-Conference performers Darren Swiggett (QB), Aaron Dunklin (WR), Bryce Gregory (OL), Bowe Butler (LB) and Jonathan West (DL).
