Gibson Breaks School Record at Tiger Paw InviationalFebruary 13, 2009By CSU Sports Information CLEMSON, S.C. – The Lady Buccaneer track and field team went to Clemson University to take part in the Tiger Paw Invitational, with Dionne Gibson breaking another school record, this time in her first attempt at the 60m dash. Running in her first 60m dash of the season, Gibson shocked the competition, posting the best qualifying time of the day with a 7.55 second finish. Gabrielle Houston was not far behind, also qualifying for the finals in 7.64 seconds. Brittney Greer’s time of 7.96 was good enough for a tie for 15th. Gibson’s time is a new school record, her third of the season, and is the fastest time run in the Big South this season. With the feat, Gibson holds the school record and Big South's fastest time in the 60m, 200m and 400m dashes. Gibson stayed one top in the finals, running 7.59 to win the event, while Houston ran 7.72 seconds, finishing sixth. Patria Norman just missed the finals in the 60m hurdles, finishing 11th with a time of 9.08 seconds, 0.1 out of finals contention and 0.01 seconds in front of teammate Chidi Walsh who finished 12th. Channel Futrell finished 18th with a time of 9.40. Chidi Walsh was the top CSU finisher in the 400m dash, running 1:00.28 to finish 12th.
In the distance events, Brittany Owens moved herself up in the conference standings with a ninth-place, 19:14.34 finish in the 5000m run, while Aundraya Camp ran a season-best in the 800m run, finishing in 2:37.20. Tracey Epley ran 2:53.25, finishing just behind Camp in the 800m run. In the field, Tia Habbersham tossed the weight 13.11m to finish 20th overall, while Kellie Schilling’s toss of 10.09m was good enough for 29th. Jessica Thomas finished 16th in the long jump with a leap of 5.18m, edging out teammate Norman, who got out 5.13m from the board to finish 17th. Bridgette Copeland was right there with them in 18th with a leap of 5.08m. The Lady Bucs will prepare for Saturday’s competition, including the mile run, the 4X400m relay, high jump, triple jump and shot put.
