Baseball Hosts Falcons of USAFA

Military Appreciation Day

The Buccaneer’s doubleheader on Saturday, February 28 against the Falcons of the Air Force Academy will be honored as Military Appreciation Day. Military personell will perform the national anthem and present the colors. Any military service members can present their military ID at the gate and recieve complimentary admission in appreciation of their service.

Miracle League Day

On Sunday, March 1, the Bucs will host the Miracle League Day, and admission to the game is only $1.00. Sunday’s game time has also been changed from 2:00 to 1:30 pm at Buccaneer Ballpark.

The Game

The Bucs series against the United States Air Force Academy will be the second meeting between the two programs, and the USAFA enters with a 1-0 adantage against the Bucs. The Air Force Falcons have started their season 1-2, and with one game postponed against Memphis. The Falcons started their season on the four games at the Service Acadamies Spring Classic, deafeating Navy 2-0 before dropping to Kansas 5-0. The Falcons lost a close game to Pittsburgh by a final of 9-10.

Adam Hill is leading the Falcons in batting with .500 avg, but has appeared in a single game, while teammate Addison Gentry is batting .364 on a three game appearance. Gentry leads the Falcons with 3 runs, 4 hits, while leftf ielder Lupo, leads with 3 rbi. Vai Schierholtz and Jack Lupo each enter batting .273 on three games.

The Buccaneers enter the game on a three game winning streak after taking down Chicago State in a two game sweep and winning their last game against Marist College. The Bucs came up big against Chicago State on Wednesday winning 13-3 on 13 hits, while holding the Cougars to only 5 hits.

HOME RUN!

The Buccaneers have hit five homers to open their season. Center-fielder Tom Burkett and DH Blake Hunt have each two on the season, while senior short-stop Mark Perry has bombed one. Hunt’s two homers came in the Buc’s 8-6 win over Chicago State, while Burkett added one in the same game. The three homers is the most the Bucs have had a single game this season.

Multiple Multiples

Seven Bucs have had games with multiple hits, including Cox, Chinners, Morian, Hunt, Burkett, Dolan, and Perry. Doaln, the lone freshman to start for the Bucs, leads the team with three games with multiple hits, while teammate Mark Perry has two games with multiple hits.
