Bucs Drop Game to Xavier

By CSU Sports Information

CHARLESTON, SC-  The Buccaneers drop their single game to the Musketeers of Xavier University by a final score of 11-4.  The loss moves the Bucs to 3-3 on the season, while Xavier advances to 3-1 on the season.

The Bucs were first to get a run on the board in the bottom of the first after taking the Musketeers three up- three-down in the top of the inning, on an interference call on Xavier; second basemen Scotty Radabaugh recorded the run after a strange round of the bases.  Radabaugh hit the lead off single then advanced to second on a baulk and after stealing third, was sent home on an interference call at third during the steal.  The run put the Bucs on top 1-0 and it was the top of the third before Xavier would tie the game on a lead off homerun from Adam Pasono.

The Bucs would hold off the Musketeers and hold the game at one run a piece, until the top of the fifth when the Musketeers found five runs and ran through their lineup.  The five Xavier runs cam eon four hits, but the Buccaneer pitching gave up four walks with three base- on -balls and a hit pitch.  The five runs would put the Musketeers up 6-1, and the Bucs would not respond with another run until the bottom of the seventh.

After a Musketeer pitching change, the Bucs’ shortstop Mark Perry would single and be driven home on the next play, by senior catcher Jake Cox, who drove out a double play to record the RBI.  Xavier would score another five runs at the top of the eighth and ninth innings, while the Bucs would find two more in the bottom of the eighth.  Center fielder Tom Burkett would record the 2 RBI double that drove home right fielder Tyler Thornburg from second and freshman third basemen Patrick Dolan from third.  The two would not be enough though as the Bucs were unable to capitalize in the ninth, leaving the Musketeers with a 11-4 win.

The Buccaneers’ game against USC Upstate scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled due to severe weather possibilities.  The game has been rescheduled for May 7 at 6:00 p.m. at Upstate.  The Bucs’ next game is Wednesday, March 6 at South Carolina.  The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
