AUBURN, ALABAMA- The Buccaneers took the field for their first of two games against the Tigers of Auburn University, and after 13 innings the Tigers took the victory 7-6 over the Bucs. The loss moves the Bucs to 8-9 on the season while the Tigers advance to 14-5 on the season. Auburn’s Bradley Hendrix (3-2) took the win for the Tigers after 2.0 innings of work, allowing one run on two hits, and recorded three strikeouts. Tyler Thornburg (3-2) would tally the loss from the mound allowing one run on one hit in the final innings. CSU’s Kory Morian and Tyler Thornburg lead the Bucs from the plate going 4-6 and 4-7 respectively, on the evening, while Morian crossed the plate for three of the Bucs’ six runs, including his first homer of the season. Catcher Jake Cox would tally three RBI to lead the team. Thornburg, Scotty Radabaugh, and Patrick Dolan all tied the school record for most at-bats in a single game, stepping to the plate seven times apiece. The Tigers were lead by Justin Hargett who went 3-4 with two RBI, while holding Auburn’s hot-hitter, Trent Mummey, to only 1-6 in the contest. Auburn would be first to get on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the second inning, but the lead would not last long as Thornburg would bat in senior Mark Perry to tie it at one apiece. The Bucs would continue their drive in the top of the fourth, taking the lead 3-1 after Morian and Nick Chinners would cross home after taking advantage of a Tiger error at second base. The Tigers would take the lead back over the course of the fifth and sixth innings for a 5-3 advantage. But the Bucs to come back with one run in eighth and ninth innings to tie the game at five. Morian’s homer would bring the Bucs within one in the eighth inning, while teammate Perry would score his second run of the game in the ninth to tie the game at five runs. Both teams’ would hold each other to the five runs until the Bucs would take the one run advantage in the top of the twelfth inning when Morian would score after advancing to second on an error, and crossing home a sacrifice fly from Cox. But the Tigers would take their turn at tying the game in the bottom of the inning to send the game into the thirteenth inning where they would hold off the Bucs and score a single run in the bottom to take the win.
