One-Two Finish in Heptathlon Highlights Day Two at Shamrock InvitationalMarch 20, 2009

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. Ė Day two of the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina was highlighted by a CSU sweep of the heptathlon event.
The Lady Bucs swept the top two spots in the heptathlon as Freshman Patria Norman held her spot atop the leader board, claiming victory in the event in incredible fashion. Normanís tally of 4,250 points not only took first, but qualified her for Junior Nationals in the event held in Oregon over the summer. Not far behind was sophomore Channell Futrell who improved one spot on day two to finish as runner-up with 3,741 total points.
In the womenís hammer throw, Tia Habersham tallied a distance of 39.11m (128-04) to finish 14th overall, while Daisy Millsapís throw of 23.61m (77-05) put her in 28th.
The lone CSU entry in the event, Sequoya Casey finished 22nd in the long jump, getting out 4.94m (16-2.50).
In the 100m dash, Jessica Thomas qualified for the finals, running 12.29, the 13th-best time in the prelims. Brittney Greer just missed the next level as she completed the straight away in 12.58 seconds, finishing 24th.
Dionne Gibson, Gabrielle Houston, Ebony Muller and Amerikorie Odey combined to finish seventh in the 4x200m relay, completing two laps in 1:40.78.
Chidi Walsh finished second in her heat and seventh overall in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles, finishing in 15.21 seconds. Bridgette Copeland (15.52) and Christi English (15.56) finished 14th and 15th, respectively, with all three Lady Bucs qualifying for the finals.
Brittany Owens ran well in the 3,000m steeplechase, completing the course in 12:23.43 to finish ninth overall.
Christi English finished seventh overall in the high jump, clearing 1.55m (5-1.0), while Bridgette Copeland finished in a tie for 11th clearing 1.50m (4-11.0).
