Baseball Hosts The Citadel, Game NotesMarch 25, 2009By CSU Sports Information The Buccaneers welcome cross-town rivals Bulldogs of The Citadel (Southern Conference) in a 3 p.m. game on Wednesday afternoon at Buccaneer Ballpark. It is the first of two games where the programs will face off, the Bulldogs will host the second meeting April 8. The Bulldogs are an even .500 on the season (9-9), with a 5-4 mark in the Southern Conference. Second Baseman Bryan Altman leads the team with a .420 average, for 34 hits on 81 at-bats, 23 RBI, 23 runs. Teammate Richard Jones leads the Bulldogs with three home runs this season, and ties with Altman with 52 total bases. Starting pitcher, Matt Talley, has pitched a total of 21.1 innings so far this season while recording a 2-0 record, with six appearances this season. Batters are hitting .237 against Talley, while he has sat 13 batters in his time on the mound. The Bucs enter the game off a loss to Furman University on Tuesday afternoon. The Buccaneers are batting .307 as a team, with senior Mark Perry still leading from the plate with .385. The Bucs’ starting pitcher, left hander TJ Green (1-1), has seen a total of 13.0 innings in five appearances for Bucs, allowing nine runs on 16 hits. The Bucs’ 8-1 loss to Furman resulted in the second lowest number of runs in a game for the Bucs. The lowest was a 2-0 loss to Air Force on February 27.
