Owens, Habersham Win Events at Georgia Southern Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga.  – The rain shortened the Georgia Southern Invitational Track and Field Meet, but not before Charleston Southern could grab a pair of victories. Brittany Owens won the 3,000m steeplechase event, while Tia Habersham won the hammer competition.

Owens ran 12:18.66 to win the steeplechase, her best time of the season so far. Habersham shattered her personal best for the year in the hammer throw, adding almost 20 feet to last week’s distance. Habersham also claimed third in the shot put event, while the 4x400m relay team combined to finish as the runners up to Savannah State in their first relay of the season.

Next weekend will take a lot of combined efforts as the Lady Bucs go to Gainesville, Fla., for the Florida Relays.
