ROCK HILL, SC-  The Buccaneers (12-20, 7-7) lost their game Sunday afternoon at Winthrop Ballpark to the Eagles (19-10, 9-3), by a final of 2-1. It is the first time this season the Bucs have been swept in a series.  The game was close throughout the innings and was the lowest overall scoring game of the series between the conference rivals.

Buc opener Jesse Cadenhead would tally the loss as Tyle McBride would record the win for the Eagles.  Cadenhead went 7.0 innings, his second-longest appearances of the season, allowing two runs on nine hits and retiring four. The Bucs’ Keith Hustedt would come close the game working one inning from the mound. The Eagles’ McBride would tally the win with 7.0 innings allowing one hit and striking out eight at the plate.  Teammate Mizeko would record his sixth save of the season in 2.0 innings of work.

The Eagles outhit the Bucs 9-1.  Freshman Patrick Dolan led the Bucs from the plate, recording the single hit and RBI to help the Bucs avoid the shutout.  Dolan’s RBI single to left field would cross designated hitter Brandon Roberts who reached on an error in the infield to start the sixth inning.  The Bucs run in the sixth tied the game at one run apiece, after the Eagles had taken the lead in the fourth 1-0 on an RBI double from Murrian to cross Tisdale.

The tie would not last long though, as the Eagles would score their second and winning run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.  An RBI single from Tisdale would put the Eagles in front 2-1 and they would hold the lead the remainder of the game.

The Bucs will take a break from conference competition as they face the Citadel on Wednesday for a game on the Bulldog’s home field.
