Bucs Claim Five Victories at USATF State Meet

COLUMBIA, S.C.  – Charleston Southern took a trip up I-26 Wednesday evening for the USATF State Meet, hosted by South Carolina at the Weems Baskin Track Facility, using the opportunity to tune up and improve placements for the upcoming Big South Conference Championships.

Javon Young won his heat and the championship in the 100m dash, edging out Quintin Bell of Voorhees by .01 seconds with a time of 10.81.

Dominique Riggins shaved .7 seconds off his season-best in the 110m hurdles, running 15.08 to finish sixth overall in the event. He would later come back to win the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.53.

Young again led the way for CSU in the 200m dash, running 22.03, the fastest time by any Buccaneer this season, claiming third in the event. Juan Thompson finished fifth with a time of 22.20 while Tim Myszak ran 23.33 to claim 13th.

Levi Brooks won the 400m dash with a time of 48.15, while Thompson finished fourth (50.25). Jason Gilliard (51.01) ran his best time of the year, and Tim Myszak (52.54) and Brandon Harris (53.35) rounded out the CSU finishers.

Brandon Harris finished fifth in the 800m event, running 2:04.65, while Andrew King won the 1,500m run with a time of 4:10.74. It was King’s first race of the season and gave him a 13-second victory.

With only South Carolina to compete with in the 4x400m relay, the Bucs won the event with a 3:23.91 time, while USC was disqualified.

In the field, Blake Eidson and Tom Lackland finished fifth and sixth, respectively in the shot put, while finishing fourth and fifth, respectively in the hammer throw event.

The Bucs will go to the Big South Championships on April 16-18 at Radford University.
