Bucs Face #27 Eagles in Non-Conference Game, Game Notes

CSU takes a break from conference play as they face the Eagles of Georgia Southern for their first of two non-conference road games. The Eagles and Bucs have met several times before, and the Eagles lead the series 35-4. The Eagles enter the contest 28-9 on the season and 12-4 in conference play. They are currently on a five game winning streak, with a sweep over conference rival Davidson over the weekend.

The Eagles are batting .324 as a team with designated hitter Griffin Benedict leading the way averaging .402 in 36 games. Left fielder Ty Wright is on Benedict’s heels batting .396, and leads the team with 81 total bases, 38 RBI, 57 hits, and 46 runs. Right fielder Philip Porter leads the team with seven homers on the season.

The Eagles will be starting right hander Andy Moye, who enters with a 4-0 record on 10 appearances. Moye has worked 46.1 innings from the mound, the second-most of the Eagle pitching staff, and holds a 6.02 era.

The Bucs enter the game off a sweep at the hands of conference foe Presbyterian College over the weekend. Patrick Dolan hit his seventh homer of the season in the series to tie Tyler Thornburg for the team lead after Thornburg took the lead earlier in the week hitting his seventh of the season, and dropping one three games in a row.

The Bucs are batting .300 as a team, as Nick Chinners continues to lead from the plate with .368. Chinners and Dolan lead the team with 29 runs each, while Dolan has amassed 88 total bases and 55 hits to lead the team in both categories.

Time Change Note

The Bucs announced a time change for the first game of their home series against conference rival Radford University on Friday, April 24.  The game has been moved up to 2:00 p.m. from its previously scheduled time of 3:00 p.m.
