Bucs Face Spartans for First Ever MeetingMay 7, 2009

The Bucs continue a new conference road series as they head to Spartanburg to face the Spartans of USC Upstate. It is the first meeting between the two programs, and both enter off non-conference games earlier in the week.
The Spartans are 12-33 on the season, 3-21 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, and enter the game off two non-conference wins after being on a eight game losing streak. The Spartans recent victories over Wofford and The Citadel were won 13-2 and 6-3, respectively.
The Bucs are entering off dropping a double header at the College of Charleston on Tuesday night. The two teams combined for a total of five homers, with Derek Smith, Patrick Dolan and Jake Cox tallying homers for the Bucs.

The Spartans are batting .272 as a team, lead by catcher Jimmy Tanner who is batting .353 in 45 games. Tanner leads his team 67 hits and 86 total bases, while being only one RBI behind the leader with 32.
First baseman Phillip Morgan is also helping lead the team offensively with a .317 average, and a team leading 33 RBI, 4 home runs and 15 doubles.
The Bucs enter the game battting .295 as a team and continue to be lead by first baseman Nick Chinners, who is averaging .364 in 46 appearances. Senior Tyler Thornburg leads the team in home runs with 11, and 103 total bases with 45 RBI. Four other Bucs join Chinners in batting over .300.
The Bucs have out hit the Spartans for the season 479-432, including 49 homers to the Spartans 14.
Pitchers for both teams have not been announced.
Slugging it out
In two games at High Point, the Bucs pounded out 28 runs on 37 hits, splitting the double header with the Panthers. CSU had a combined five doubles, one triple and five home runs over the two-game stretch, including three homers by Tyler Thornburg. With a 21-4 victory in game one, it was the sixth time this season CSU has scored at least 10 runs, and the first time since May 11, 2002 that they have scored at least 20 runs. Thornburg set a new CSU record with eight RBI in the contest, while tying the school mark with five runs scored.
Senior Kory Morian holds the longest hitting streak of the season for the Bucs, at 13 games with at least one hit. The leading active streak is six games by Mark Perry.
Lead-off batter, Scotty Radabaugh leads the team for most hits in a single game, with five against the Air Force Academy in their Feb. 28 game. Four other Bucs have four hits in a game including Radabaugh who started it with four hits against C of C. Thornburg and Morian joined the rank in their March 17 game at Auburn with four apiece, while Dolan did the same on March 22 at Gardner-Webb. Chinners’ cycle performance on March 27 also put him in the ranks with four hits in a single game.
In the Bucs’ March 17 game against Auburn, Patrick Dolan, Scotty Radabaugh, and Tyler Thornburg all tied the program record for at-bats in a single game with seven each. That feat has now been accomplished five times this season after Dolan and Burkett did it against High Point.
