Giving to CSU Up Despite National Trends

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Despite the tough financial times that are making headlines practically every day, the Charleston Southern athletics department has announced that donations were up 3.5 percent for the 2008-09 school year.

Cathryn Broderhausen, CSU’s Associate A.D. for external affairs saw an increase in financial donations, as well as an increase in Buccaneer Club members for the past school year. According to and article by Giving USA, the nation on average saw a 5.7 percent decrease.

Broderhausen and her staff raised almost $440,000, which puts them well within striking distance of their 2012 goal of hitting the $500,000 mark.

“We feel very fortunate to see our donations increasing during an obviously difficult time,” said Dr. Rick Brewer, Vice President for Student Affairs and Athletics. “I think that it is a real testament to our supporters, and also to the confidence that they have in the mission and vision of Charleston Southern University.”
