Football's Buccaneer Classic Summer Competition Results are InAugust 5, 2009By CSU Sports Information CHARLESTON, S.C. – The numbers were impressive this summer for the Charleston Southern football team, but it wasn’t just the number of athletes who showed up. According to Director of Strength and Conditioning Tobias Jacobi, 169 personal records were also set during the summer. Approximately 45 student-athletes showed up for workouts during the first summer school term, while 67 arrived for session two. “The team did a tremendous job preparing for the 2009 season,” said Jacobi. “The results of the players’ hard work have really shown through during our summer testing program.” As part of the testing, athletes compete in the Buccaneer Classic Competition, where they compete for points within their position group. Each player is tested in the bench press, back squat, power clean, total weight, vertical jump, broad jump, sit and reach, sit-ups, pro-shuttle and one-drill. Only one, transfer Joel Walton, was able to reach the Champion Buc level, which required a combined point total of 85-100 points. A detailed breakdown of the competition is below.
