CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern University men’s golf team captured the overall title at the 2009 CSU Fall Invitational, which concluded Tuesday at par-72 Crowfield Golf Club. The host Buccaneers shot a team score of 9-over 297 on Tuesday to finish with a three-round score of 899 (+35).

The University of South Carolina’s Dykes Harbin shot a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to capture the individual title with a two-day score of 218 (+2). CSU’s Kelvin Day finished a shot back of Dykes after shooting 72 in the final round.

CSU finished 11 shots clear of Gardner-Webb University, who came in 2nd place. Rounding out the top five at the event were Presbyterian College, South Carolina and Western Kentucky University.

CSU’s David Denlinger shot a 77 on Tuesday to finish in 6th place, with a score of 225 (+9), while Ross Thomson (77 on Tuesday) and Jonathan Rustin (72) finished tied for 9th with a total score of 12-over 228. Jason Clatworthy finished tied for 30th with a three-round score of 239 (+23) after firing a 76 on the last day.

Playing as an individual, CSU’s Chris Nuhn finished tied for 19th after a Tuesday 76 gave him a total score of 234 (+18). Sang Hyun Lee shot a 93 on Tuesday to finish with a score of 273 (+57), good for a 41st-place result.

"Winning this event is a fantastic way for us to finish our fall season," said CSU Head Coach Mike Wilson. "I'm very proud of the way our guys competed, and I hope that this title gives us the momentum we need as we prepare for the spring portion of our schedule."

The tournament championship caps the 2009 fall season for Coach Mike Wilson’s Buccaneers.
