CSU Softball Announces Skills Camp

By CSU Sports Information

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern Softball program will host a skills camp on Sunday, November 8th, at the Buccaneer Softball Field.  A fielding and pitching session will go from 1:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a hitting session taking place 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Registration for the camp will begin at 12:30 p.m.

CSU Softball camps are operated by professional instructors including Head Coach, Shane Winkler, and Assistant Coach, Megan Rhodes Smith.  Also instructing at the camp will be Jessica Williams, a four-year starter at Marshall University and four-year professional player in the National Pro Fastpitch.

Players will have the opportunity to learn fundamentals of infield and outfield play.  Players will also have their arm strength tested on the jugs radar gun while also taking a full infield/outfield round to show off their skills.

Pitchers will learn proper pitching mechanics and techniques to improve both their velocity and movement.  Pitchers will have their pitches recorded on the jugs radar gun.

Hitters will be taught the same hitting fundamentals being used by Charleston Southern University as well as the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch.  Hitters will also have their home-first and home-home times measured as well as their bat speed.

The cost of the camp will be $50 for either hitting or defense/pitching, with the option for both sessions at $90.

Those interested in attending should email Head Softball Coach, Shane Winkler, to reserve a spot, at swinkler@csuniv.edu.
