CHARLESTON, SC - Pitching was the order of the day as Charleston Southern completed a three-game sweep of Claflin University with a pair of victories on Saturday afternoon at Buccaneer Field. CSU won game one, 3-0, and captured game two, 5-1.

CSU (5-4) received outstanding starting pitching from Brad Bissell and Ian Holmen on a day where the bats were held in check by Claflin pitchers. Bissell tossed a complete game, two-hitter, in game one of the doubleheader. Bissell (2-1) struck out five and did not walk a batter, extending his streak to 21 innings without a walk.

Holmen (1-1) was equally impressive in his second start of the season. Holmen scattered four hits in six innings, allowing one run and striking out five. CSU pitchers walked just one batter in 22 innings during the three-game series.

In game one, six different players had one hit for the Buccaneers with centerfielder Jordan Haar picking up the lone RBI of the contest. The Bucs scored a run in the first, a run in the fifth and the insurance run in the eighth. Claflin starter Anthony Gamble allowed two earned runs and struck out seven in seven innings of work.

Shortstop Billy Dalton and catcher Scotty Thacker each had two hits and two RBI in the game two victory, though four of CSU's five runs were unearned. Claflin starter Traywick Birchmore allowed seven hits in five innings, falling to 1-1 on the season.

Claflin scored their lone run of the series in the top of the third inning with back-to-back doubles but Holmen escaped the damage and cruised until the seventh when Bobby Parnell got the final three outs of the game.

CSU returns to action on Tuesday, hosting College of Charleston at 2:30 p.m. The Bucs then take off on a seven-game road trip.
