Postgame quotes from CSU vs. The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Postgame quotes from CSU Head Men's Basketball Coach Barclay Radebaugh after his team's 61-60 victory over The Citadel on Tuesday night:

On the play that led to Jamarco Warren’s game-winning shot:
“We called play 71 to try to get the ball around the rim to Kenny (Mitchell), where he’s very good, but that wasn’t there. So we went to Jamarco (Warren), who’s hit big shot after big shot. We thought he could make the bucket, but we thought at least he could get fouled.”

On the performance of Jamarco Warren:
“(Jamarco) had three turnovers in a row, early in the second half, and then he missed a couple of shots that were ill-advised. Last year, Jamarco would have started to crumble and pout. This year, Jamarco stayed with it. We took him out for about 45 seconds, and then he was great down the stretch. It all goes back to how God is changing his life and changing his attitude toward the game of basketball.”

On his team’s defensive effort:
“We really did get after it defensively. To hold them to 32% shooting in the second half on there home floor is a complement to our guys and how they have bought in to the defensive part of our game plan.”

On the defensive adjustments his team made:
“(The Citadel) shot 50% from the floor in the first half, and we wanted to press them but we had to call it off because we were in such deep foul trouble. But we mixed in our 1-3-1 zone and our man-to-man and we managed to change their rhythm.”

On the performance of Kelvin Martin:
Kelvin Martin was the player of the game. Kelvin Martin, in my opinion, is just a great player. I love coaching Kelvin; he played the point, the small forward and the power forward for us tonight; really everything we asked from him. He hit big shots for us; really, he just played very well.”

On the poise his team showed in a tight game:
“We’re a young team, but we grew up a lot against Maryland. Tonight, we played like a more experienced team and I think our game against Maryland helped us in that area.”

On how this win affects the team going forward:
“We want to keep this win in its proper perspective. It’s still early (in the season). I told the team that we don’t want to have a great game; we want to have a great season.”
