Postgame quotes from CSU vs. Coastal CarolinaNovember 21, 2009CHARLESTON, S.C. - Postgame quotes from QB Antwan Ivey, TE/DE Tyrese Harris and Head Coach Jay Mills after Charleston Southern's 30-23 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday: RB Antwan Ivey On his career-high 145 rushing yards: “I had a great day, but first of all I have to tip my hat to the offensive line. They played awesome. They bust their butts all week, and it showed up in the game today. I really didn’t have to do much. The holes opened up so wide I could have driven a truck through them.” On the skill of his fellow CSU running backs: “Any of the backs we have can do the same thing. My number kept getting called, and I just took advantage of it. I think we’ve got the best corps of backs in the Big South.” On the team's season-ending four-game winning streak: “When we were 2-5, we didn’t have much to play for, but we did have a winning season to play for. This team is so full of character. We weren’t just going to back down; we wanted to go out with a bang.” TE/DE Tyrese Harris On the team's strong finish: “Coach Mills always talks about finishing strong, that the great teams play well in November. We didn’t stop playing when we were 2-5. We played for pride, for all of the seniors.” On the selflessness that has characterized the team: “That’s what we’re all about. It’s not just me; Ryan Ard plays both ways, and everybody sucks up their pride and does whatever it takes for the team to be successful.” On his emotions as his career comes to a close: “It’s the last game, and you want to be sad, but you can’t, because we won the last four weeks and beat four quality opponents. Especially the win over Coastal – we love them in Christ, but we hate them on the field.” Head Coach Jay Mills On Matt Bach's interception touchdown: “I’m not sure if it sealed the victory, because there was still a lot of time on the clock. Matt is so banged up, like so many of our players are, but he found a way to make a play at the end, and it couldn’t have happened to a better person.” On the fine play of Chris Parris: “Chris by his own admonition hadn’t 100% bought in until this summer. But he worked hard this summer and it showed it the end with his fine performance today.” On the play of his offensive line: “I think we’re one of the top teams in the country in regard to how we protect the quarterback, and we ended up having one of the most successful rushing attacks in school history.” On how his team consistently exceeds expectations: “We’re always used to people predicting us to finish 5th or 6th in the conference, and that was the prediction again this season. It’s the same thing they did last year, when we were picked 6th and we finished 2nd. This year we ended up 3rd. We finished eight points shy of a share of the conference championship. So we’re getting closer; we’re banging on the door, and hopefully next year we beat that door down.”
