Baseball Announces 2010 Recruiting Class; Includes Three From Palmetto State

By CSU Sports Information

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern Head Baseball Coach Stuart Lake and his staff have announced the signing of their 2010 recruiting class.

This year’s recruiting class consists of six players, including three from South Carolina. Alex Tomasovich comes to CSU from Ft. Mill HS (SC), Zach Hagaman comes from Waccamaw HS (SC) and Matt Witt joins the team from Beaufort HS (SC). The lone North Carolinian in the class, Cody Austin signed to play with CSU after finishing his career at Kings Mountain HS (NC). Rounding out the class are Patrick Jansen from Athens Academy HS (GA) and Levi Mauldin from Cartersville HS (GA).

“This is a much smaller class than 2009 when we signed eight players to NLI’s, but brought in a total of 17 new faces to the Buccaneer program,” said Lake. “This class however, is very talented and we expect all six of these guys to make immediate impacts. Our recruiting coordinator, Charles Assey and assistant coach Sid Fallaw did a great job compiling this class. We focused on our goal of recruiting the Southeast. We have three players from South Carolina, two from Georgia, and one from North Carolina, with all of the player’s homes being within four hours of Buccaneer Ballpark.”

Cody Austin – 5’10\160lb Middle Infielder, Kings Mountain, N.C.

Lake on Austin
“We are very excited to get a player the caliber of Cody. He has been on campus for several events and will fit in great at Charleston Southern. Cody comes to CSU with very, very talented defensive ability in the middle infield. He is a true baseball player who will compete as a freshman to play.”

Levi Mauldin – 6’3\205lb RHP, White, Ga.

Lake on Mauldin
“We feel like Levi can make an immediate impact on the mound next year. Levi brings a lot of experience from high school and a good physical presence on the mound. He plays in a great high school program and that experience will allow him to compete early at the Division l level.”

Matt Witt – 6-3\220lb LHP\1B, Beaufort, S.C.

Lake on Witt
“Matt is a physical player who will be a true 2-way guy in our plans.” Matt is very close to home as he is a low-country guy whom also plays right here in Charleston for the Charleston Baseball Academy. “Matt can hit for power and is ranked in Top 10 of LHPs in state of South Carolina.”

Patrick Jansen – 6-0\200lb RHP, Athens, Ga.

Lake on Jansen
“Patrick is a strike thrower and extremely hard worker. Those two elements lead us to believe he will be a part of our pitching staff immediately. Patrick has a great physical frame to continue to get better as he progresses. Patrick is also a left-handed hitter who will get some reps at the plate too.

Zach Hagaman – 6-0\173lb LHP\OF, Pawleys Island, S.C.

Lake on Hagaman
“We are extremely excited what Zach brings to our program. Zach will come in as another true two-way player. Zach is equal as a hitter and pitcher, and is very good at both. Zach will hit with some power from the left-side and throw an above average fastball from the left-side as well.”

Alex Tomasovich – 6-2\165lb Middle\Corner Infielder, Tega Cay, S.C.

Lake on Tomasovich
“Alex is a true infielder with an arm and a glove. Alex is very athletic player whose versatility will allow him to play several spots on the infield. He brings more athleticism to our team as a hitter as well. Alex projects to mix in well as a freshman.”
