Warren Scores 1000th Point in a 68-58 Losing Effort at Air Force

By CSU Sports Information

USAFA, Colo. – Charleston Southern dropped a 68-58 contest against Mountain West opponent, the Air Force Falcons, Saturday at Clune Arena.  The Bucs led virtually the entire first half and despite a late run at the end of the game, couldn’t overcome a 33 percent shooting effort and a 45 percent mark from the foul line.  CSU dropped to 3-2 on the young season while Air Force improved to 3-1.

Jamarco Warren recorded his 1000th career point and finished with a team high 18 points, five threes and six assists.  Kelvin Martin filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and four steals.  Tom Takelewicz also chipped in with eight points off the bench.  For the Falcons, Grant Parker recorded a double-double with a game high 25 points and 11 boards.

CSU opened up with an 11-6 lead, using a pair of threes from Warren in the opening minutes.  The Bucs managed another 8-0 run after an Air Force three, capped off by a Martin dunk, to go up 17-9 at the 11:30 mark.  Another Warren three pushed the score to 22-13, but the Falcons responded with an 8-1 run of their own.

Air Force continued to roll in the final minutes of the first half, en route to a 28-26 lead at the intermission.  Warren tallied 12 points in the first half to lead the way for CSU, while Tankelewicz scored five points off the bench.

A Martin layup tied things up to start the second half, but the Falcons responded with an 8-2 run, to go up 36-30 three minutes into the frame.  Air Force extended their lead with a 12-2 run to take a commanding 48-32 lead with 12:35 on the clock.

The Falcons held a double-digit lead for the majority of the second half, including a 59-45 advantage with 3:36 remaining in the game.  The Bucs had it as close as seven in the final minutes on a Martin three point play.  But was too little too late, as Air Force held on for the 68-58 win.

CSU committed just nine turnovers on the night, while tallying seven blocks and eight steals.  The Falcons however, outscored the Bucs 40-32 in the second half and shot 43 percent in the period.

CSU will be back in action on Monday November 30, 2009 when they play at home against the Toccoa Falls Eagles.
