Postgame quotes from CSU vs. UNCNovember 29, 2009By CSU Sports Information CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Charleston Southern women's basketball coach Julie Goodenough talks about her team's impressive performance in the teams' 76-67 loss to No. 4 University of North Carolina Sunday afternoon at Dean E. Smith Center. On hanging with one of the best teams in the country: I was really proud that our players came out and took advantage of a great opportunity for us. For some of our players, this was their only opportunity to play North Carolina and I think they got the most out of the experience. I talked to the players before the game and I told them to go into it with courage and confidence and they did that. They were fearless. I was really pleased with the teams’ defensive intensity. On winning the offensive-rebounding battle: To be honest I was shocked when I saw the final total for our offensive rebounds. We had at least a couple players going after offensive rebounds every single time. That was an effort we’d like to see every night. On attempting so many three-point shots: We don't normally shoot 48 (3-pointers). But just running the game back through my mind, I think there were probably about five ill-advised 3s that we took. Other than that, I would have given them the green light to take the ones that they did. That's a big part of our game. On being able to play with the perimeter players: North Carolina is one of the best teams in the country, and if we can beat UNC defenders off the dribble drive like we did tonight, then I see no reason why we can’t do it against any team we play the rest of the season. We got every three point shot that we wanted because of our execution. We attacked offensively and ran plays to perfection. On the post defense: Our post defense was better in this game than it has been all season. Our post players came out and played physical and alert. If they can be as tough willed as they were against one of the very best post teams in the country, than we should be very strong defensively going forward. |
