SAVANNAH, GA - Savannah State's T.J. Lonon lined an RBI double to right center to score Fabian Small with the winning run as the Tigers defeated visiting Charleston Southern, 5-4, at Tiger Field on Wednesday.
Savannah State improves to 8-6 on the season while Charleston Southern falls to 5-6 overall.
CSU had tied the game in the top of the ninth on shortstop Billy Dalton's RBI single to left, scoring Jay Reynolds from third. CSU reliever Josh Davis (0-1) walked Small with one out in the ninth before Lonon's game-winning hit. Davis allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings of work.
CSU starter Nino Fasulo went six innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits. CSU had 10 hits on the day, two each by Dalton, centerfielder Jordan Haar, first baseman Jeff Kolhagen, and right fielder Jason Rose. Left fielder Brian Sole belted his third homerun of the season, a solo shot in the second inning.
Savannah State was led by Tim Paige, who had three hits and three RBI, including a homerun in the third inning that put the Tigers up, 2-1. CSU took a 3-2 lead with a two-run fifth as Rose contributed a run-scoring single and later scored on Brad Woods' groundout.
CSU next travels to Campbell University for two games with the Camels on Friday and Saturday.Related Item: Box Score
