CSU Wins Relay on Day Two at New Balance InvitationalFebruary 6, 2010By CSU Sports Information NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Charleston Southern 4x200m relay team took home the championship without a challenge, winning by more than two full seconds over the second-place squad from Hampton, Saturday, at the New Balance Invitational. Although they missed the collegiate record by 0.4 seconds, the 4x200m relay team broke the meet and school record with a time of 1:25.47. Javon Young, Levi Brooks, Cornelius Tyler and Dantwan Spreads combined to beat the CSU mark set of 1:25.88 set in 2008 at the same meet. Young just missed the finals of the 200m dash, running 21.82, tying the second-best time by a CSU athlete this year. His time was good enough for 13th overall, 0.02 away from a spot in the finals. Tyler ran 21.99 to finish 22nd in the same event. After posting the third best time in the preliminaries (47.46), Brooks claimed seventh overall in the 400m dash with a time of 47.92. The only field athlete at the meet for CSU, James Hayes posted a mark of 16.36m in the weight throw to finish 20th overall. CSU will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Clemson for the Tiger Paw Invitational. Related Item: Box Score |
