GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Charleston Southern men’s golf team shot their best round of the tournament, a nine-over 297, to finish tied for 8th place at the Furman Intercollegiate, which concluded on Sunday. Two Buccaneers, Kelvin Day and Jacobo Pastor, shot under-par rounds on the final day at par 72 Furman University Golf Club. No. 18 Clemson won the tournament championship with a three-day score 865 (+1), 14 shots clear of No. 29 Chattanooga. Clemson’s Ben Martin and Chattanooga’s Steven Fox tied for medalist honors with matching three-day totals of 210 (-6). Day fired a two-under 70 on Sunday to finish tied for 5th, with a score of 217 (+1). Day recorded four birdies on the day while making just a pair of bogeys. The senior was one of just six players to shoot a round under par on Sunday, and he was the highest finisher of the 20 Big South Conference golfers at the event. Pastor shot a round of three-under 69 on the tournament’s final day to finish tied for 20th, at eight-over 224. Pastor jumped a tournament-best 49 places on Sunday after beginning the day tied for 69th. Jonathan Rustin finished tied for 62nd, at 15-over 231, after shooting a second consecutive 78 (+6) on the final day. David Denlinger finished tied for 108th after shooting 80 (+8) on Sunday to finish at 22-over 238. Ross Thomson rounded out the CSU line-up at 241 (+25), good for a 123rd place tie. He shot an 84 on Sunday. “This was a good tournament for us, especially after we finished last at this event a year ago,” Buccaneer Head Coach Mike Wilson said after Sunday’s round. “Our guys played very well, especially Kelvin and Jacobo. We hope this result will help our national ranking.” The Buccaneers take the course again on April 12, when they begin the Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. FINAL RESULTS |
