Women's Track Hits Two Meets This WeekendMarch 23, 2010

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern’s women’s track and field team will have a busy weekend, splitting time between the Asics Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C., and the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, S.C.
Patria Norman, Channell Futrell and Ellyn Decker will travel with Coach Tosha Ansley to the Asics Winthrop Invitational to compete in the heptathlon on Thursday and Friday. Norman set a new school record in the event last year at the Big South Championships with a tally of 4,599 points, and also competed in the event at the USATF Junior National Championships. Futrell also had a season-best total last year at the Conference meet, scoring 4,348 points to finish fourth overall, just behind Norman.
Decker, who competed as a high jumper during the indoor season will have her first-collegiate attempt at the multis this weekend.
The Asics Winthrop Invitational will start at 2 p.m. on Thursday with the 100m hurdle portion of the heptathlon.
The trio of Buccaneers will then join the rest of their team in Columbia, S.C., on Saturday for the Weems Baskin Invitational that begins with the field events at 10 a.m. with the men’s hammer throw. The track portion of the meet will begin at noon with the 3,000m steeplechase.
