Casey Third, Houston Fifth at Weems Baskin Invitaitonal

COLUMBIA, S.C. – With more than 17 teams from the region competing, CSU women’s track team held its own at the Weems Baskin Invitational, hosted by South Carolina.

Gabrielle Houston finished third in her heat with a time of 11.84, the fifth-fastest time of the day. Jessica Thomas (12.12) was fifth in her heat, while Brittney Greer’s time of 12.81 put her eighth in heat four.

Despite battling illnesses, Susanna McKee clocked in at 2:36.60 in the 800m run, the fifth-best time in heat three, while Adrienne Cuff ran 5:23.23 in the 1,500m run. Tracey Epley ran 22:17.08 in the 5,000m run to claim 11th.

Fresh off her third-place finish in the heptathlon at the Asics Winthrop Invitational on Thursday and Friday, Patria Norman bounced back with a 15.11-second finish in the 100m hurdles, finishing sixth in her heat and 11th overall out of more than 30 competitors. Channell Futreel, who also competed in the heptathlon, clocked in at 15.84, third in her heat of the hurdles.

Amerikorie Odey ran 1:02.64 in the 400m hurdles, finishing second overall.

Norman, Houston, Tamisha Foster and Thomas combined in the 4x100m relay to run 47.46 finishing fifth overall.

In the hammer throw, Tia Habersham finished seventh in her flight with a toss of 41.01m, while Breeann Guerra finished third in her flight with a mark of 37.34m.

Guerra got a mark of 38.26m in the discus to finish second in her flight and ninth overall while Habersham failed to get a countable mark in.

Ellynn Decker improved her mark in the javelin from Friday’s heptathlon competition to 18.89m on Saturday, finishing fifth in her flight of the event.

Sequoya Casey jumped 5.80m in the long jump, winning her flight and finishing third overall, while Deona Jones’ mark of 5.57m was enough for sixth overall. Foster had a jump of 5.10m to finish 13th overall.

Casey also led the way in the high jump, clearing 1.55m to tie for sixth overall.

The Lady Bucs will now travel to the Florida Relays on April 7
