CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Tyler Thornburg won his second-straight decision over a ranked foe as the pitcher for the Charleston Southern baseball team defeated No. 28 VMI this past weekend, and the Big South Conference honored him as he was named The CRONS Brand Pitcher of the Week for games played March 22-28.
Thornburg, a junior from Atlanta, Ga., tied his career high with 11 strikeouts, while holding the Keydets scoreless through eight innings as CSU won in a 1-0 thriller. He moved to 4-1 on the season with the win, and he currently owns a team-best 4.01 ERA.
The right-hander had a no-hit bid through five innings and allowed just two hits in the road contest. He retired the VMI side in order in five of his eight innings, and he finished with 125 pitches and 82 strikes.
This is the second time in three weeks Thornburg has earned the weekly award, as he was named pitcher of the week March 15 for his complete-game victory over No. 6 Florida.
Charleston Southern next heads to the field March 30 for a 5 p.m. meeting at College of Charleston.
