BOILING SPRINGS, NC - Gardner-Webb used an eight-run fifth inning to defeat Charleston Southern, 13-4, on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action. CSU led 4-3 going into the fifth before the explosion put the game out of reach.

CSU falls to 12-16 on the season and plays at The Citadel on Wednesday night. The game Tuesday was the first of nine consecutive road games for the Buccaneers, who have lost five of their last seven games.

Freshman first baseman Graham Maiden had three hits for the Bucs while shortstop Billy Dalton added two safeties. Catcher Scott Thacker also had two hits, including his first homerun of the season.

Josh Davis (1-2) took the loss for CSU, allowing five runs in the fifth inning. Robert Parnell started the game, allowing three hits and three unearned runs in three innings. CSU committed three errors in the contest.

Senior Ian Holmen is the scheduled starter in Wednesday night's game. Following the game with The Citadel, the Bucs travel to UNC Asheville for a three-game conference series.
