CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern athletics department gathered one final time as a group during the 2009-10 school year, taking the opportunity to recognize another banner year in CSU athletics during the 44th Annual Athletic Awards Banquet. Each team handed out a sportsmanship and MVP award, and also took time to honor their seniors and letter winners from the past year. For the first time since the inception of the award, the baseball team took home the Buc Cup, awarded to the team who had the best attendance and various events throughout the season. The football team won the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s Team Community Service Award for the second-straight year. Scotty Radabaugh (baseball) and Alissa Schoblaski (Soccer) were honored for their service with SAAC as officers, while football’s Tyrese Harris earned multiple honors throughout the night, including the SAAC Distinguished Service Award. Harris was also named a team captain, given the football sportsmanship award, and earned the Michael Frost Christian Athlete Award, one of the highest honors given out at the banquet. Women’s golfer Olivia Jordan-Higgins was named the team’s MVP and also the Senior Female Athlete of the Year, while Levi Brooks won the men’s track MVP award and was the Senior Male Athlete of the Year. Volleyball’s Sam Sasan was given the R.L. Wynn Christian Leadership Award. The final honor of the night went to Andrew McKain of the football program, who was announced as this year’s recipient of the Hunter Cup. McKain will receive the award at graduation on May 8, 2010. The award, named after CSU President Dr. Jairy C. Hunter, Jr., is given to an athlete for their all-around athletic, academic and character performances during their CSU career.
