BIRMINGHAM, AL - Birmingham Southern belted three homeruns off of CSU ace R.J. Swindle, all coming in the fourth inning, to pace the Panthers to a 6-3 win over Charleston Southern in Big South Conference action on Friday night.
Birmingham Southern improves to 22-9 overall and 6-1 in Big South play while Charleston Southern falls to 16-18 overall, 4-3 in league play. The two teams meet in a doubleheader on Saturday with the first game beginning at 1 pm.
Swindle took the loss for CSU, his first in five starts, falling to 5-3 on the season. Swindle allowed six runs (four earned) in seven innings, striking out seven and allowing seven hits.
Junior right fielder Jay Reynolds went three-for-four at the plate for CSU while junior center fielder Jordan Haar belted his 10th homerun of the season for the Bucs.
Junior left-hander Brad Bissell will start for CSU in game one on Saturday with right-hander Nino Fasulo expected to start the second game of the doubleheader.
